Welcome to Kibera

08/12/2010 - by Justin Benn/Kibera residents

As part of its communication work in support of the World Disasters Report 2010 -- Focus on Urban Risk - the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is proud to present a community video fully produced by residents of Kibera - in Nairobi, Kenya - one of the world's largest informal settlements. This video is intended to provide a platform for people who know first-hand about what it is like to live every day with the challenges of rapid urbanization, as addressed in our report, and to directly share their stories and concerns with a wider audience. The 10 minutes film is fully produced by Kibera residents without any editorial guidance from the IFRC. It is our desire to enable people to have their voices heard without being filtered by external organizations. It is our intention to increasingly put vulnerable people at the centre of our communications.
