The Africa Climate Change Resilience Alliance (ACCRA) Game

This is a game about “flexible and forward-looking decision making”. Players take on the role of district officials, with each responsible for making annual investment decisions.

Each of these decisions will determine the development path of players’ districts. Players may choose among many development options and will face many dilemmas.
In The ACCRA game (pdf, 609 kB), each player’s overall goal is to develop and play their best 30-year resilience strategy, competing with each other for the most resilient district.
At the same time, each group of district officials – other players – form regions, which also compete with each other.
The winners…
think long-term and collaborate
keep options open for the unexpected
develop cross-sector projects.
The game was played external in the Kotido district in north-eastern Uganda in November 2012.
In this video external, officials and elders tell how the game has improved their skills in helping to deal with climate change.
