Climaction: Building alliances of the essence to address the risks of climate change

Recently CLIMACTION’s focal point Mr Asadul Haque Pomiee and his team contacted with Islamic Foundation Noakhali Office to conduct a small session at Imams seminar to aware them on climate change issues held in Noakhali district on 19th May 2011 and Islamic Foundation permit them to do so.

150 Imam from different mosque of Sadar Upzilla (sub district) attended in this training. RCY of the Noakhali District shared the cause and impacts of the Climate Change, Vulnerability of Bangladesh due to Climate Change, Role and importance of the community people to disseminate the Climate Information. After the session the entire Imam promised that they will discuss it in Khutbah. More people will be aware and be informed about the climate change issues through the Imams.

Bangladesh Youth Movement for Climate (BYMC) is initiated under a British Council, Bangladesh programme called International Climate Champion (ICC).  BYMC aims to mobilize the Bangladeshi Youth and Build the national youth alliances to take actions on Climate Change. Another aim is to engage Bangladeshi youths with the International Youth Climate Movement to empower them globally and take their voices into decision making platforms as youth are deserted in decision making process.
